Rev. Deborah Burke, Lead Pastor
Deborah Burke and her late husband Robert founded Inner City Church in 2003. The church began as an outreach to inner city children, and the Burkes soon realized the need for a community church to address families as a whole. Inner City Church began in a small facility on SW 22nd St in southwest OKC. The church offered family worship, children’s ministries, and a free meal after Sunday service.
In time, additional ministries like the clothing closet were added. The church grew to minister to dozens of families, and the opportunity to reach more was apparent. A generous donor purchased the old facility of Grace Assembly of God and Christian Academy for Inner City Church, and the church moved into the much larger facility in December of 2009.
Meanwhile, Robert Burke died suddenly. When then 7-year-old Nathan Burke heard of his father’s death, his first question was who would lead the church. Deborah stepped up to meet the need. The church has grown significantly under her leadership and now has 150 adults attending weekly, more than 150 children and youth involved in programs and ministries hosted on the campus, a food pantry that serves 75 families monthly, a large free clothing closet, and a residential Teen Challenge recovery program on campus.
